Bihar to Set Up NITI Aayog-like Commission for Long-Term Development Vision

PATNA, July 6(BiharTimes): In a major policy initiative aimed at accelerating Bihar’s growth trajectory, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Saturday announced that the state government will establish a high-level commission on the lines of the Centre’s NITI Aayog to chart a long-term development vision and promote evidence-based policymaking.

The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting of the Planning and Development Department, where the Chief Minister assessed the progress of key government schemes and emphasized the need for data-driven governance.

According to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the proposed commission will play a crucial role in formulating strategic policies, ensuring effective coordination across departments, and setting measurable development targets for the state. It is expected to act as a think tank, guiding Bihar’s socio-economic transformation with a focus on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation.

Choudhary stressed the importance of strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure timely and efficient implementation of flagship schemes. He directed officials to adopt modern tools and technologies for real-time tracking and evaluation, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability in governance. The move is seen as part of the government’s broader effort to align Bihar’s development agenda with national priorities while addressing state-specific challenges. By institutionalizing long-term planning and evidence-based decision-making, the government aims to create a robust framework for sustained economic growth and improved public service delivery.

Officials indicated that further details regarding the structure, mandate, and timeline for the commission’s establishment will be finalized in the coming weeks.

The initiative is likely to have significant implications for policy formulation in Bihar, especially at a time when the state is seeking to boost investment, infrastructure development, and employment generation.
